NYSC Members Lament Non-Payment of New ₦77,000 Allowance

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members are expressing their disappointment and frustration after the Federal Government failed to pay the new monthly allowance of ₦77,000.
Despite the government’s approval of the allowance increase in July 2024, and the NYSC Director-General’s announcement that the new allowance would be implemented in February 2025, corps members only received ₦33,000 for their February allowance.
Many corps members have taken to social media to vent their frustrations, citing the high cost of living, transportation expenses, and accommodation challenges. They accuse the government of insincerity and lack of empathy for their struggles.
“I’m disappointed, but not surprised,” said one corps member. “We’ve been hearing promises of an allowance increase for months, but it’s clear the government doesn’t prioritize our welfare.”
Another corps member added, “How can we survive on ₦33,000 in today’s economy? The government needs to take our plight seriously and pay us the new allowance as promised.”
The NYSC has not issued an official statement on the matter, but a senior official confirmed that the scheme has yet to commence payment of the new allowance.
“We’re aware of the corps members’ concerns and are working with the relevant authorities to resolve the issue,” the official said.
The delay in payment has sparked concerns about the government’s commitment to the welfare of NYSC members. Many are calling for urgent action to address the situation and ensure that corps members receive the new allowance as promised.
As the situation continues to unfold, one thing is clear: NYSC members will not remain silent about their struggles, and the government must take their concerns seriously.
