GOVERNOR FUBARA INSTALLS ASARI DOKUBO AS KING IN RIVERS STATE

In a move that has generated widespread attention, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has installed Asari Dokubo, a former Niger Delta militant leader, as the Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in Degema local government area of the state.
The installation ceremony took place at the Government House in Port Harcourt, where Fubara presented Dokubo with a certificate and staff of office. Three other new traditional rulers were also installed during the ceremony.
Governor Fubara urged the new traditional rulers to see their positions as a call to service and responsibility, rather than personal aggrandizement. He emphasized the importance of traditional institutions in promoting peace, stability, and development in the state.
“As traditional rulers, you have a critical role to play in promoting peace, stability, and development in your respective domains,” Fubara said. “I charge you to work closely with your people, to listen to their concerns, and to provide leadership that is fair, just, and equitable.”

The installation of Asari Dokubo as a traditional ruler has generated mixed reactions, with some praising Governor Fubara’s strategic move and others criticizing the appointment.
Dokubo, a former leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF), has been a controversial figure in the region. While some see him as a hero who fought for the rights of the Niger Delta people, others view him as a militant who was involved in violence and instability in the region.
Despite the controversy surrounding his appointment, Dokubo has pledged to work for the development and progress of his people. In his acceptance speech, he thanked Governor Fubara for the honor and promised to use his position to promote peace, stability, and development in the state.
“I am humbled by this honor, and I pledge to work tirelessly for the development and progress of my people,” Dokubo said. “I will use my position to promote peace, stability, and development in our state, and to work closely with our governor and other stakeholders to achieve our collective goals.”
The other three traditional rulers installed by Governor Fubara are:
- HRM Winston Odize Alamina Oputibeya XII: Amanyanabo of Koniju in Okrika local government area
- HRM Eze Noble Friday Uwo: Eze Igbu-Ehuda (Ahoada) IV in Ahoada-East local government area
- HRH Prince Ike Ehie: Eze Igbu Orilukwoe in Ahoada-East local government area
The installation of the new traditional rulers is seen as a strategic move by Governor Fubara to consolidate his power and influence in the state. However, it remains to be seen how the appointments will be received by the people of Rivers State.
