EFCC Debunk List of Governors to Investigate For Alleged Corruption Cases

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recently issued a statement to clarify that it is not associated with a purported list circulating in the media, which claims to reveal the names of ex-governors under investigation for alleged corruption. The EFCC categorically denies releasing any such list and labels the report as false and mischievous.

Dele Oyewale, the Head of Media and Publicity of the anti-graft agency, emphasized that the so-called list is a disingenuous fabrication designed to achieve motives known only to the authors. He urged the public to disregard the report and advised the media to verify information regarding ongoing investigations directly with the commission, to prevent the spread of false and inaccurate information.

The EFCC has taken this step to distance itself from the viral list, which includes allegations of embezzlement by 58 ex-governors amounting to N2.187 trillion. This clarification comes in light of several news outlets publishing headlines that the EFCC had released a comprehensive list of ex-governors under investigation for corruption.

It is crucial for the public and media to rely on verified and official sources of information to avoid being misled by false reports. The EFCC remains committed to its mandate of combating economic and financial crimes in Nigeria and encourages all stakeholders to support their efforts by ensuring the accuracy and credibility of information disseminated.
