Factional Power Struggles: A Dominant Feature In Rivers State Politics “ Fubara vs Wike”
In the volatile political landscape of Rivers State, factional power struggles have emerged as a defining characteristic. Godfatherism, an entrenched practice, has played a central role in shaping the political dynamics of the state. This system revolves around the dominance and control of power by influential factions, resulting in a perpetual game of power plays. Governor Nyesom Wike perceives Governor Simbiakara as a threat to the established structure that has granted him considerable influence.
Wike believes that Gov Fubara actions are aimed at dismantling the very foundations that have given him his political clout. Former Governor Wike, who himself was once entangled in factional rivalries, made a significant move by appointing Governor Fubara to succeed him. This decision further exemplifies how factionalism has become deeply ingrained in Rivers State politics.
