Why I Froze Kogi Account – Bello

The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has reportedly frozen the accounts of the state. According to reports, the action was taken as a result of the state’s inability to meet up with its financial obligations.
This move has caused a lot of concern and anxiety among residents of the state, as it is feared that it may lead to a disruption in the payment of salaries and other benefits to civil servants and other workers in the state.
The Governor’s action has also been met with criticism from opposition parties and other stakeholders, who have accused him of using the state’s financial resources for his own personal gain.
In a statement on Thursday, the Commissioner for Finance, Asiru Idris, said no imprest or any form of payment should be made to anyone from Government Account henceforth.
According to the statement, all “standing orders and investment instructions are hereby cancelled forthwith”.
“All Kogi State and Local Government Accounts are hereby frozen with effect from today, Thursday 23 November 2003.”
However, Governor Bello has defended his decision, stating that it was necessary to ensure the financial stability of the state in the long run. He has also promised to work towards finding a lasting solution to the state’s financial challenges.
