A’Court Affirms Abdullahi Sule As Nasarawa Gov Set Aside Tribunal Judgement
The Court of Appeal sitting in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria has affirmed Engineer Abdullahi Sule as the duly elected Governor of Nasarawa State in the 2023 general elections. The judgement by the appellate court set aside the earlier verdict of the lower tribunal which had nullified Sule’s victory. The court upheld the argument of Sule’s legal team that the petition filed by the opposition lacked merit and was a mere attempt to discredit the election process. The ruling has put to rest the legal battle that had surrounded Sule’s election and has paved the way for the Governor to focus on delivering good governance to the people of Nasarawa State.
The appellate court also set aside the October 2 judgement of the Nasarawa State Election Petitions Tribunal that sacked APC’s Sule and declared David Ombugadu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the governorship election.
Delivering judgement, the three-member panel, led by Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenam, held that the tribunal erred in law in concluding that Governor Sule did not win majority of the votes cast in the election.
The Court further held that the Governor was denied fair hearing.
